My Background

Dr. Taylor-Nelms works with educational institutions, federal agencies, nonprofits, and Fortune 500 companies to deliver a metrics-based communications strategy. She credits her doctorate in Communications, Computing, Math, and Technology from Columbia University to grounding her communication skills in a brain-based approach of how adults learn best. As a leader in the field of immersive learning, she developed award-winning communications materials such as websites, social media strategies, interactive training, change management plans, research-based studies, and marketing videos.  An early advocate of virtual worlds, Dr. Taylor-Nelms developed, researched, and tested the effectiveness of immersive 3D learning solutions for clients, including the National Science Foundation, the University of Virginia, Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management, International Society of Technology in Education, and Xavier University.

Prior to joining Booz Allen Hamilton, Dr. Nelms led efforts to integrate technology into the curriculum at schools and nonprofits, such as New York’s wNET, Public Broadcasting Station. She conducted online training for more than 6,000 K-12 teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) courses resulting in wNET selection as a top web resource by Excite and “Digital Dozen‚ by the prestigious Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Math and Science Education.

A double-major, she graduated with honors from Smith College, received a master’s degree in journalism from New York University, and a doctorate in Communications, Computing, Math, and Technology from Columbia University. She is also nationally certified as a Human Capital Strategist from the Human Capital Institute and as a subject-matter expert in virtual worlds from the University of Washington in Seattle.
